I've not had a chance to update this until now.
I decided to get the Valeo solid clutch conversion for the reasons I stated.
I've lived with it for about 6 weeks now and done a few thousand miles with it.
As PeterD said the vibration is transmitted to the car - it makes the cars a lot more 'dieselly' and there is more shake than before the DMF failed (but much less than after it failed).
There was some initial clutch judder as it all bedded in, and the vibration at low RPM pull away is not really going to be everyone's cup of tea.
When I drive in London its quite unpleasant in actual fact - thankfully thats not something I do too often.

So if, like me, you do your driving in the country and on motorways its not too bad, otherwise fit a DMF.
